Welcome to Obsidian Hill

A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Roleplay

Set against the backdrop of the Nevada high desert, Obsidian Hill was once a thriving silver mining town from 1879 to the 1930s. After decades of abandonment, it was transformed into an authentic Old West educational theme park in 1987, complete with restored historical buildings and period demonstrations.

The Setting

For over 30 years, Obsidian Hill operated as a living museum, featuring everything from blacksmith demonstrations to heritage gardens. The park's careful blend of authentic frontier architecture and discretely integrated modern infrastructure created the perfect educational experience for visitors.

Then came the outbreak.

Now, what was built for education and entertainment has become humanity's last stand. The same Victorian hotel that once hosted wine tastings now houses survivors. The heritage gardens that demonstrated "frontier farming" are the only thing standing between the community and starvation. The authentic 1880s jail cells, once used for tourist photos, now serve their original purpose.

The Community

Obsidian Hill can support more than a hundred survivors across its various buildings and facilities. The park's infrastructure includes:

  • 50+ buildings ranging from original 1880s structures to modern facilities
  • 50+ housing units across hotels, quarters, and cabins
  • Production facilities including workshops, gardens, and brewing equipment
  • Defense systems from fortified perimeters to a 60-foot fire tower
  • Essential services including medical facilities, schoolhouse, and community center

Every structure tells a story of adaptation - from luxury to survival, from performance to reality, from the past to an uncertain future.

The Challenge

Surviving in the high desert presents unique challenges beyond the infected. Extreme temperature variations, water scarcity, and isolation from major population centers mean every decision has consequences. The same geographic barriers that once protected the settlement now make rescue or resupply impossible.

Resources must be carefully managed, conflicts resolved through community governance, and expeditions planned with military precision. The difference between thriving and merely surviving often comes down to the choices made by individuals working together toward a common goal.

1. Respect and Maturity
We expect all members to conduct themselves with maturity and respect. This includes respecting boundaries, treating all community members fairly regardless of their characters' actions, and maintaining a collaborative rather than competitive atmosphere.

This is a no-activity game designed for adult players with real-world responsibilities. Play when you can, step back when you need to. We understand that life comes first, always.
3. Content and Character Guidelines
All content should be age-appropriate for the setting and respectful of the community. Characters should fit the post-apocalyptic survival theme and contribute meaningfully to the community dynamic.
4. Communication Standards
Use the game comm for questions, the mod journal for concerns, and maintain IC/OOC separation. Approach conflicts with the intent to resolve rather than escalate.
5. Zero Tolerance Policy
We have zero tolerance for drama, entitlement, or disruptive behavior. Members who create problems for the community will be removed without extended discussion or appeals process.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS :: COMMUNITY INFORMATION
What kind of roleplay style does Obsidian Hill use?
We use a relaxed, narrative-focused style that emphasizes character development and community storytelling. There's no pressure for constant posting or dramatic storylines - sometimes the most interesting roleplay comes from everyday survival challenges.
How does the "no activity requirement" policy work?
Exactly as stated - there are no posting minimums, activity checks, or requirements to maintain your character. Play when you want to play, take breaks when you need them. Your character slot will remain secure regardless of posting frequency.
What happens if there are conflicts between characters or players?
IC conflicts are part of survival roleplay and should be handled through character interaction and community decision-making. OOC conflicts should be brought to the mods immediately for resolution. Our zero tolerance policy means persistent troublemakers will be removed.
Can I play multiple characters?
Yes, multiple characters are allowed. However, new members are restricted to a maximum of 2 characters for their first month in the community. This gives you time to settle in and establish yourself before taking on additional characters.
How are major community decisions handled?
Both IC and OOC, major decisions that affect the entire community are discussed openly. IC decisions are made through the established community governance structure, while OOC decisions are made collaboratively with input from active members.
